Universal Pictures brings to the big screen “The Purge: Anarchy,” the sequel to summer 2013’s sleeper hit that opened to No. 1 at the North American box-office. The film sees the return of writer/director James DeMonaco to craft the next terrifying chapter of dutiful U.S. citizens preparing for their country’s yearly 12 hours of anarchy. The cast is lead by Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”).

The new story follows an unlikely group of five citizens who, over the course of the night, find out just how far they will go to protect themselves and, ultimately, each other, as they fight to survive a night fraught with impossible decisions.

We begin our story with a haunted loner, Leo (Grillo), a sergeant who has suffered the loss of his son prior to tonight. Arming himself with enough guns and body armor to make it until dawn, he is a man possessed...and one clearly going out on a vigilante mission of vengeance against those responsible for his loss.

Eva (Carmen Ejogo) is a single mother trying to make ends meet who lives on the wrong side of the tracks. She lives with her teenage daughter, Cali (Zoe Soul), and can't afford the security offered the wealthy. When they are attacked in the home where they attempt to hide and are briefly captured by masked Purge assailants, Eva and Cali must rely on the unlikely help of a stranger named Leo to save them from certain death. When Leo, against his better judgment and to the detriment of his plan of retribution upon someone who wronged his family, witnesses their kidnapping, he opens fire to protect Eva and Cali.

Meanwhile, a couple on the brink of separating, Shane (Zach Gilford) and Liz (Kiele Sanchez), become the victims of a carjacking just as The Purge commences. Seeking refuge in Leo's armored car, they team up with these other three strangers to fend off those seeking to exercise their right to mayhem.

As the new allies question everything they've ever been told by their leaders, they will be hunted across the massive city in a kill-or-be-killed series of survival scenarios that blur the line between sponsored revenge and righteous justice.

Returning alongside writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to produce the next chapter fo the thriller are Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum (“Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious” series), alongside Sebastien K. Lemercier (“Assault on Precinct 13”) and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (“Transformers” franchise), Brad Fuller (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and Andrew Form (“Friday the 13th”).

Opening across the Philippines on August 27, 2014, “The Purge: Anarchy″ is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Action superstar Dwayne Johnson experienced a massive jolt on the set of Paramount Pictures' epic adventure “Hercules” during a scene when his Greek hero was chained to stone pillars.

"It's when Hercules breaks through the chains and becomes the demi-god he was born to be," says Johnson. "I was actually yelling with all the power I could muster, 'I am Hercules!' I gave it my all and made myself pass out every time we did it. But I honestly felt in that moment that I was born to play this role."

From the looks of it, he might be right.
Even as a child, Johnson, 41, idolized the Herculean legend — "He was the first superhero." But with his 6-foot-5 frame and his famously heroic stature, Johnson is one of the few actors who could legitimately portray his hero onscreen. The effort has taken a decade, and came into focus when director Brett Ratner came onboard four years ago. Johnson took eight months to sculpt his body to demi-god status and maintained it during the taxing shoot in Hungary.

"It's incredible, he's up every morning at 3:45 right on the treadmill, then it was right to the gym for hours," says producer Beau Flynn. "And then it was to the makeup chair, then shooting all day in the heat. And repeat that for 90 days."

Johnson's first transformation into his character took 41/2 hours after being adorned with a wig, beard, makeup and wardrobe. "It looked incredible, we had succeeded," says Johnson. "But it was like, how the hell can we cut the time down?"

Eventually they whittled the daily process to 3 1/2 hours, though the lush yak-beard ("Yes, real yak hair," says Johnson) alone took 2 1/2 hours of application.

"The No. 1 goal is to make the definitive version of Hercules," says Johnson. "We know we're going to be under a microscope." But he's confident moviegoers will accept his "passion-driven" project based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The story finds Hercules after he has endured his famous 12 Labors (which included slaying a nine-headed hydra and the fearsome Nemean lion), punishment bestowed on him after killing his family in a fit of insanity.

Hercules is still in a dark place mentally, with scars from his many battles. But now he is traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he's hired to train an army for an epic battle.

The setting allowed Johnson, wearing Hercules' Nemean lion headpiece and wielding a massive oak club (with the lion's claws), to lead war scenes featuring more than 1,000 soldiers.

"Green screen and effects can be fantastic. But when you have real men, real sweat and even real blood, it's very gratifying," says Johnson. "You feel the substance."

After he was done with some serious clubbing, Johnson would recover in modern Hercules style.

"I had the club of Hercules and the Nemean lion's head in my room," says Johnson. "I'd come home to that and catch something on the BBC with a glass of tequila."

From Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, "Hercules" stars Dwayne Johnson as both man and myth, leading a band of mercenaries to help end a bloody civil war in the land of Thrace and return the rightful king to his throne. A tormented soul from birth, Hercules has the strength of a God but feels the suffering of a human. Unimaginable villains will test the mythical power of Hercules in director Brett Ratner's gritty take on one of the most epic action heroes of the ages.

“Hercules” also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Aksel Hennie, Ingrid Berdal, Reece Ritchie, Tobias Santelmann, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaac Andrews and John Hurt.

The film is produced by Beau Flynn, Barry Levine and Brett Ratner. Based on Radical Comics' "Hercules" by Steve Moore, with a screenplay by Ryan J. Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Directed by Brett Ratner.

“Hercules” is now open across the Philippines in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D cinemas.

1st Ko si 3rd. Entry for the 2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival

1st Ko si 3rd, an interestingly kilig offering to the 2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival

Reality of things compels us to live life as it unfolds. We move with the times and work with what's on hand. This is often the way we create the story of our lives. There's a chance to leave a supposed love story behind to settle with the more obvious life offerings, forgetting what could have been and then one day after many years of work and family life, fate brings back a chance for the heart to open up a space for love again. This is the story of a married retiree named Cory brought to life by Ms. Nova Villa and her love interest when she was still single, Third portrayed by Mr. Freddie Webb in 1st Ko si 3rd, an official entry to the 2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival.

"I would like to tell a story about an interrupted love," says Real Florido the film's writer and director. "Then play with the idea of giving it a chance when the characters are in the senior years." The film's excitement and complication come from the fact that Cory and Third are in their 60's and are married to different partners. "This film also shows how a retiree would spend her 'free' days and look forward to the future after ending her decades of labor in the city treasury office," Florido added.

Bringing Back an Old Spark
Villa and Webb have been known in the 1990's as well-watched comedic couple. Their chemistry doing funny skits on television has had a good following from numerous households. At this day and age of multifaceted showbiz coupling, 1st Ko si 3rd is bringing back to the silver screen the wholesome tandem. This time providing both young and mature audiences with unadulterated family entertainment that gives an insight about life and love.

Igniting a Dream
Real Florido has been writing for one of the most competitive and prevailing television networks in the country where he has made and lead content for several entertainment shows. His background in video production started in college. He also did several collaborations on independent film making before he had an entry approved to the 2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival with 1st Ko si 3rd.

"I want to advocate delivering content to audiences that that will make them think and realize some aspects of everyday living that are sometimes overlooked," Florido states. "My entry to this year's festival intends to do that and I look forward to being able to create more projects with compelling messages in the future," he concludes.

2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival will be at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on August 1 to 10, 2014.

“Annie and Jay are a married couple who are ten years down the road. They have two kids and they find themselves in that part of the relationship where they’re not doing their best to keep it alive. They have a very happy marriage, but like a lot of couples, there’s just no time to have sex,” says Cameron Diaz, who re-teams with her “Bad Teacher” co-star, Jason Segel, in Columbia Pictures' outrageous new comedy “Sex Tape.”

“So Annie comes up with this idea – let’s make a sex tape. It’ll be exciting, it’ll be fun, and then we’ll erase it.”

“They film it on their iPad to watch once and – theoretically – erase it,” says Segel. “But Jay doesn’t erase it right away. And then there’s a cloud malfunction resulting from Jay’s use of a new app. Now, there are a bunch of people who should not have the sex tape who have the sex tape.”

And so begins a wild night of adventure as Annie and Jay try to return the video to the deleted items bin where it belongs – but in the tension of the chase, the truths of their relationship will come to the fore. “The movie is about the challenges of marriage, and trying to keep it fresh,” Diaz continues. “Losing the sex tape is something that might cost them, but instead it ends up strengthening the relationship – reminding them of the team they’ve always been.”

“It was an incredibly funny idea,” says Jake Kasdan, who directs the film. “And a perfect idea for Jason and Cameron, both of whom I just love working with. And it was an opportunity to make a big wild comedy about very real, human things-- love and sex and marriage. As soon as Jason and I started kicking it around, I was laughing like crazy and I knew it was something we had to do."

Kasdan says that balancing the tone of the comedy was an appealing challenge. “The comedies that I am attracted to can be big and silly and broad in places,” says Kasdan, “the same way life can be big and silly and broad in places. And the funniest stuff to me is always the stuff that feels most true. Ultimately, much of the execution is about the actors who play the parts, and both Jason and Cameron have this deep, inherent honesty to what they do.”

Segel says that Kasdan, Diaz and himself share a shorthand familiarity that made a risky – and risqué – project seem much safer and saner. “I’ve known Jake for fifteen years now, so we’ve been friends for a long time. We had a great time on `Bad Teacher,' one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was a no-brainer to reteam the two of us with Cameron,” says Segel. “There’s so much intimate stuff in the movie, that I think the fact that the three of us are so comfortable with each other gave us the opportunity to up the humor. I felt really lucky to be there.”

That intimacy paid off when Kasdan, Diaz, and Segel shot the scenes of Jay and Annie shooting their tape. “Oh my God, it was hilarious,” says Diaz of shooting the scenes. “The most hilarious aspect was that Jake had to be a part of it,” she laughs. “It was not just Jason and me. It was Jason and me and Jake. We had these moments when Jason and I were in bed or in some funny position and we’d look up and see Jake looming over us trying to figure out what the shot was going to be. And we’d ask ‘Hey, Jake, how’s it going?’ So, yes, the funniest part was how the three of us spent those days, with Jason and me half-naked and Jake in there with us, requesting, ‘Can you guys do it faster, faster, slower, a little higher, a little lower?’ Jake had full control of our sexual positions.”

“It was just the three of us, trying to come up with every insane moment we could for a sex tape,” says Kasdan. “I shot most of the actual sex tape myself, with a handheld camera, as opposed to with a crew of a hundred people, so the video has a very homemade, handmade feeling to it. And the two of them were so incredibly free and brave and funny, it sort of knocked me out. Their ideas and their willingness to try any kind of joke... Even as I watch the movie now, there’s stuff in there that I can’t believe actually happened. But it all feels completely truthful, in the most hilarious, horrible way.”

Opening across the Philippines on August 13, 2014, “Sex Tape” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Filmmaker Wes Ball, acclaimed for his kinetic powerful 8-minute short “Ruin” that had internet audiences blown away brings his dynamic filmmaking flair in the upcoming young adult movie “The Maze Runner.”

Based on the bestselling book by James Dashner, “The Maze Runner” stars Dylan O’Brien along with a talented young cast – Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie Sangster, Will Pouter, Ki Hong Lee, Aml Ameen, Alex Flores, Chris Sheffield, Dexter Darden, Jacob Latimore and Blake Cooper who are all trapped in a enclosed space known as The Glade.

“The Maze Runner” is the first book in the bestselling trilogy set in a post-apocalyptic world where a community of young men discover they’re all trapped in a maze. When Thomas (O’Brien) surfaces from the bottom of The Glade, things have never been the same, especially when the last one and the only girl in the group followed after Thomas. They all must work together not only to escape the maze, but solve its riddle and reveal the chilling secret of their entrapment.

In the movie, the boys are surrounded by massive walls – industrial yet ancient in design, these chilling walls seem out of place in the wild forest where the boys are thriving each day. Thomas, along with Minho (Ki Hong Lee) tries to go through the massive maze walls to try to get through an opening that will lead them out of the Glade. But the boys who were there first warned them that nobody has ever made it out alive from the maze. There’s something that preys on the ones that stay out too long in the maze.

Director Ball cast a talented group of young boys who are all trapped, most of whom are content in the confines and safety of the glade until Thomas came questioning everything.

Gally, played by Will Pouter whose film credits include “Son of Rainbow,” “We’re The Millers” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is at odds with Thomas’ charging into the unknown. His character, Gally is all about keeping things safe and normal so as to keep them alive.

Aml Ameen, known for his roles in “Red Tails” and TV’s “Harry’s Law” is the father figure of the group. The very first glader, he was the first one who taught himself everything there is to know to survive the glade.

Arriving second in the glade, Newt, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (“Game of Thrones,” “Nowhere Boy,” and Ferb’s voice in “Phineas & Ferb) is basically Alby’s right hand. Newt takes up the reins whenever Alby is not around.

Chuck – played by Blake Cooper (“Parental Guidance”) “He’s this absolutely adorable kid. Sort of a little brother character,” Ball says. Chuck is younger and smaller than most of the other boys. He tries hard, and nobody expects much out of him, though he gets his hero moments.”

Running through the dangerous maze with Thomas is Minho, played by Ki Hong Lee (TV’s “The Nine Lives of Chloe King”) who doesn’t say much but runs fast, making him a very valuable part of the team for solving the riddle of the maze. “He’s the fastest, most bad-ass guy who goes out into the maze every day. He’s kind of a mysterious guy, but will eventually open up, too,” says Ball of Lee’s character.

The only rose among the thorns, Teresa is played by Kaya Scodelario (“Clash of the Titans”) who is probably the harbinger of doom because “all goes bad as soon as she turns up,” director Ball shares of Teresa’s mysterious character.

“The Maze Runner” opens September 17 in theatres nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza star respectively as Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito, two original members of The Four Seasons. Oscar® winner Christopher Walken (“Catch Me If You Can”) stars as mobster Gyp DeCarlo.

Oscar® winner Eastwood (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Unforgiven”) directed “Jersey Boys” from a screenplay and musical book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, song music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe.

A video featurette about the making of the film may be viewed below

With music being the connective thread that runs through “Jersey Boys,” Eastwood made the decision to have the actors playing the title characters sing the band’s indelible songs live on camera, instead of doing pre-tapes of the musical performances. The director comments, “It just felt like the way to go since most of them had done it live so many times before. When they sing, you really see the performance value and get the emotion.”

“It feels very immediate,” attests John Lloyd Young. “Coming in, I didn’t realize how unusual it is on a film to sing live on camera, so it was an interesting challenge for everyone. The best part was that Clint is a true music aficionado, so it was fantastic to watch this legendary director turn into an enraptured audience member right in front of us.”

Vincent Piazza, who came into the film without a musical background, appreciated the support of his fellow castmates, as well as his director. “John Lloyd, Erich and Michael were there to help me through the numbers, which was a blessing, and I had great teachers. And I knew I was in the best hands with Clint. The fact that he believed in me gave me all the self-confidence I needed.”

Eastwood concludes, “I know audiences will come out of the theater humming the songs and that’s great. But I also hope they enjoy learning the story of where those songs come from and remembering the four young men whose legacy is still being felt today.”

“Jersey Boys” is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

300 Rise of an Empire now in Blu-ray & DVD

Arriving on Blu-Ray, 3D Combo Pack, Blu-Ray and 2 Disc DVD from Warner Bros Home Entertainment is the bloody battle of 300: Rise of an Empire

Vengeance is sought when “300: Rise of an Empire” arrives onto Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray, and DVD this month from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Producer Zack Snyder teams up with Director Noam Murro to create the follow up to the 2007 hit “300” in the same visually stunning style as the original. The stylized epic follows two warring nations that fight for glory amidst a raging sea.

Adapted from a screenplay by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, and based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel “Xerxes,” Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “300: Rise of an Empire” was directed by Noam Murro. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Bernie Goldmann produced the film, with Thomas Tull, Frank Miller, Stephen Jones, Craig J. Flores and Jon Jashni serving as executive producers.

The film stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows”) as Artemisia, alongside Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”) as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; David Wenham (“Better Man”) as Dilios; Andrew Tiernan (“Ripper Street”) as Ephialtes; Andrew Pleavin (“The Borgias”) as Daxos; and Rodrigo Santoro (“The Last Stand”) returns in the role of the Persian God-King, Xerxes. The main cast also includes Hans Matheson (“The Christmas Candle”) as Themistokles’ closest friend and advisor, Aeskylos; Callan Mulvey (“Zero Dark Thirty”) and Jack O’Connell (“Skins”) as father and son soldiers, Scyllias and Calisto; and Igal Naor (“Ambassadors”) as the Persian King Darius.

“300: Rise of an Empire” will be available on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for PhP2,300, Blu-ray for PhP1700

 and DVD for PhP799.

“300: Rise of an Empire,” told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” is a new chapter of the epic saga, which takes the action to a new battlefield—the sea.

The story pits the Greek general Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces, ruled by the mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and led by Artemisia, the vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Knowing his only hope of defeating the overwhelming Persian armada will be to unite all of Greece, Themistokles ultimately leads the charge that will change the course of the war.

Columbia Pictures has revealed two main posters (International and US) for its upcoming adult comedy “Sex Tape” starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. Both onesheets feature the couple with bewildered expressions – and who couldn't blame them, with the embarassing fiasco they've gotten themselves into?

In “Sex Tape,” Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) are a married couple still very much in love, but ten years and two kids have cooled the passion. To get it back, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in THE JOY OF SEX in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea, until they discover that their most private video has gone public. In a panic, they begin a wild night of adventure – tracking down leads, roping in friends, duping Annie’s boss – all to reclaim their video, their reputation, their sanity, and, most importantly, their marriage.

Columbia Pictures presents in association with MRC and LStar Capital an Escape Artists Production, a film by Jake Kasdan, Sex Tape. The great divide and plagues are about to happen when “Exodus: Gods and Kings” opens in cinemas this December.

Filmed at Pinewood Studios in London and on location in Almeria, Spain and Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, “Exodus: Gods and Kings” is the reimagining of one of the greatest stories ever told by one of the best filmmakers working today.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Oscar® winner Christian Bale as Moses along with a stellar cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and John Turturro, the biblical epic is lifted from the Book of Exodus from the time when Moses was born until the time he leads a rebellion against Ramses, whom he was raised with as his brother.

Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) is cast as Joshua, a former slave who becomes his right hand man in the uprising. Joel Edgerton is Ramses, the ‘living God’ who sees Moses, raised as his brother, lead a rebellion against him. Sigourney Weaver – who created the iconic role of Ripley in Scott’s acclaimed science fiction thriller Alien – plays Ramses’ mother, Queen Tuya. Sir Ben Kingsley as the scholar, Nun. John Turturro stars as Seti, Ramses’ father.
